This report explores and analyses the governance framework (i.e. policies, laws, and regulations) relevant to urban food waste (FW) prevention and reduction in the wholesale, retail, hospitality (restaurants, hotels), food services (schools, hospitals), and households in Sri Lanka.

Climate change education plays a vital role in addressing the climate crisis (Vaughter, 2016). By incorporating climate knowledge products into the curriculum, enhancing the capacity of staff to teach the subject, improving teaching infrastructure, and providing necessary financial support, educational institutions can contribute to nurturing a knowledgeable and future-oriented workforce.

In low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), 40% of pre-school-aged children have poor development, which undermines educational attainment and earnings later in life. To reach their full developmental potential, children require adequate nutrition, good health, responsive care, and opportunities for early learning. Early childhood development (ECD) interventions can mitigate multiple risk factors related to responsive care and opportunities for early learning, whereas agricultural interventions can mitigate health and nutrition risk factors.

Vietnam is among the few countries worldwide that have experienced a net increase in forest cover in the past decades. Widespread tree planting efforts have provided important income sources for local communities, including ethnic minority groups. However, the emphasis has been on monocrop plantations of exotic tree species, which has yielded limited ecosystem service benefits such as biodiversity conservation and watershed protection.

Flood risks are a major concern in Nigeria, due to their consequences on human life and socioeconomic activities of the people. Floods are induced by high rainfall intensity resulting from climate change. Other factors identified as the drivers of the perennial flooding in Nigeria include, poor drainage systems, poor waste management, unregulated urbanization, weak implementation of planning laws and changes in land use without regard to ecological considerations.

Irrigation is increasingly being called upon to help stabilize and grow food and water security in the face of multiple crises; these crises include climate change, but also recent global food and energy price crises, including the 2007/08 food and energy price crises, and the more recent crises triggered by the COVID 19 pandemic and the war on Ukraine.

The Vietnamese Mekong Delta is responsible for half of the country’s rice production. This is possible due to abundant freshwater resources available for agriculture. This report provides a general overview of water resources in the region, presents unique water-related challenges using earth observation data, and description of measures to address them. Structurally, section one provides a general introduction followed by description of surface water resources, its uses and dynamics. Section three contains information on water infrastructure in the region.

As part of the AICCRA project, the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) and the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) are mandated to develop curricula and training materials to accelerate the mainstreaming of climate information services (CIS) and climate-smart agriculture (CSA) into university curricula in Africa.
