The Overseas Development Institute (ODI) is the UK's leading independent think tank on international development and humanitarian issues.


Our mission is to inspire and inform policy and practice which lead to the reduction of poverty, the alleviation of suffering and the achievement of sustainable livelihoods in developing countries.

ODI has partnered with Land Alliance to scale up PRIndex, the first global index that measures perceptions of property rights among communities. The aim of this index is to provide a global and national-level baseline of perceptions of property rights, that is comparable, cost-effective, and widely accessible.

Geographical focus: 

Provides support to both the Government of Tanzania and development partners to deliver high quality policies, strategies and analysis in critical areas, including land. The programme responds to a direct request from the Minister of Lands for expert advice on Land for Equity. It funds a three person team including a National Legal Specialist on Land Issues (policy, regulatory reform, titling and registration), an International Legal Specialist on land issues and an economist with expertise on land issues.


The project supports country offices to set up and implement new land programmes by funding programme scoping and design, and providing expert 3rd party advice during implementation; supporting a range of global level activities covering improved private sector land investment, land information and knowledge and land rights protection.
