Pre-feasibility Scoping Sustainable Territorial Development of Kaback, Guinea

General

Recent dike breakthroughs in Kaback, Guinee led to an emergency situation. Floods have strongly worsened living conditions for local farmers and fishermen. The great agricultural potential of Kaback has largely been left unused and continues to decline because of residents migrating elsewhere and structural damage to the physical system and drinking water provision. A Dutch Risk Reduction mission has delivered an advice for both short-term and long-term measures. The current scoping will lay the foundation for implementation of no-regret measures and will lay the foundation for sustainable territorial development and land use planning of the Kaback region in Guinee through a commonly supported integrated Territorial Development Plan ready for implementation.

Use of information maps from Myanmar satellite data

General

Actual and historical thematic information maps for planning and monitoring of activities by Myanmar government and (inter)national stakeholders in various sectors are not available. Satellite data can be used to fill this gap and provide information maps of the whole country, providing needed information of actual situation and changes for various applications in different sectors. The goal of this project is to demonstrate the cost-effective use of satellite data by generating actual and historical thematic information maps for applications in among others water management, agriculture, forestry and land use planning.

LAND-at-scale: Towards a fair and robust land use management and governance system connecting people for susta

General

The Rwanda Land Tenure Reform programme, launched in 2009, gained international attention by regularizing land tenure at an unparalleled scale. Over eleven million land parcels were demarcated, and eight million land titles were issued to their rightful owners. Despite this, the land tenure system still faces challenges. The land administration and information system (LAIS) does not yet sufficiently address social aspects, such as incorporating informal transactions and safeguards for women, or reducing high costs of participating. Land disputes remain common, and pressure on the courts to resolve these conflicts need to be decreased. These challenges undermine the legitimacy and proper functioning of land governance. This situation is further hampered by the effects of climate change on the country. The objective of this LAND-at-scale project is to improve and ensure sustainability of land registration and management systems and their implementing institutions for enhanced perceived and actual tenure security for the people of Rwanda. This will be done through the following project strategies:1) Institutionalize a (financially) sustainable land administration information and management system.2) Implement sustainable, climate-resilient land use planning at a national level.3) Implement a more just decision-making process by local mediators.4) Strengthen academic capacity to assist in the further development of a fair and just land governance system.Kadaster International is coordinator of the project and is responsible to implement strategies 1, 2 and 4. The International Development Law Organization (IDLO) is responsible for implementing strategy 3.This project is being executed by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, on behalf of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Reliable Geo-Information for Land Use optimisation Indonesia

General

To achieve this, the project will increase awareness and understanding of international initiatives such as the Fit for Purpose Cadaster. Local organizations can use Sustainable or Participatory Land Use Planning (SLUP, PLUP or similar) projects to develop appropriate policies for formalization.
