The purposes of this Act are to provide for the protection and conservation of places and objects of cultural heritage significance and the registration of such places and objects; (b) to establish a Heritage Council; and (c) to establish a Victorian Heritage Register. It also provides for the establishment of a special fund for the management of heritage places and objects. The Act is divided into the following parts: Preliminary (1); Heritage administration (2); The Victorian Heritage Register (3); World heritage (3A); Permits and covenants (4); Historic shipwrecks (5); Protection of archeological places (6); Heritage fund (7); Enforcement and legal proceedings (8); General (9) and Transitional provisions (10).
