Nos últimos anos intensificou-se o debate em torno das relações entre camponeses e a ditadura empresarial militar que se instalou no Brasil em 1964 e descortinaram-se várias questões novas bem como caminhos e fontes de pesquisa sobre o tema.
O Brasil possui um passivo social e histórico com as comunidades quilombolas, marcado pela escravidão e a exclusão. As questões fundiárias são aquelas que mais afligem essas comunidades, que lutam pela regularização ou ampliação de seus reduzidos territórios. Embora seja visível o avanço jurídico representado pela legislação desde a Constituição de 1988, as comunidades quilombolas são marcadas pela vivência cotidiana de conflitos por terra.
This Policy Brief presents a comprehensive review of the literature on environmental conflict and peacebuilding. It traces the development of the field from its beginnings in the 1980s until today, identifying several distinct stages which are characterised by specific research questions, approaches and findings. Based on this literature review the authors address major gaps and shortcomings as well as problematic implications of the research so far.
