Participatory mapping is a power tool in resource management. Through this exercise communities are able to identify changes in natural resources and make decision on how best to manage the change. The study analyzed changes in natural resources in Kathakakai settlement scheme, Machakos County using participatory resource mapping, with the aim to discuss possible effects.

When this research was proposed, it was premised on arguments by scholars Ruth Meinzen-Dick and Helen Markelova, who had analysed agricultural land deals, and argued that there were potentially two schools of thought about foreign acquisitions over agricultural land.

Municipalities are responsible for the application of detailed urban plans. In metropolitan areas this power is given to sub-municipalities.

This By-Law made under the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act, 2013, applies to all land within the geographical area of the Kouga Municipality, including land owned by the state. The By-law shall, in case of conflict, in principle prevail over other legislation.
